Deckers Brands, a global leader in footwear, apparel and accessories, has signed up to the Ethical Supply Chain Program's (ESCP) Family-Friendly Factory Program, which supports working parents. Initially, Deckers Brands will focus on parental training, giving hundreds of its workers access to ESCP resources in order to develop skills that will support their children’s development.
ESCP will run an initial 6-month pilot across two factories in China and Vietnam. Practical workshops will cover different communication methods and explore topics such as digital safety and bullying, understanding a child’s psychological needs and mechanisms to support their emotional wellbeing. Parents and caregivers will also receive practical advice on relationship building and creating a strengthened bond – which is especially important for those who may spend long periods away from their children. The initial pilot will be followed by a formal review process to review learnings and scale as required.
Brooke Beshai, VP of Sustainability and Compliance at Deckers Brands shared, “Worker wellbeing is extremely important to us and our support for parents goes beyond the working environment and into family life. ESCP has a proven track record with training that positively impacts wellbeing and we’re looking forward to embracing the partnership as we build a better workplace.’’
Carmel Giblin, CEO and President of the Ethical Supply Chain Program, said: “Our Parental Training Program is an important step in providing workers with the skills and support needed to foster harmonious family relationships and create healthier and happier environments for their children. The ‘do good and do great’ values of Deckers Brands align perfectly with ESCP and I’m excited to see the impact as we work together to enable stronger parent-child relationships.’’
ESCP has delivered parental training to nearly 10,000 workers since 2016. Its 2023 Impact Report revealed that 94% of respondents felt able to build a harmonious relationship with their child after receiving training, compared with just 12% beforehand.
